Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
