'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the thrilling dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range strike from outside the box, and the defender quickly slammed home the rebound before sprinting toward the East Stand to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right wing-back after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the City players who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they always find their target and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, excelling for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches fixtures against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This marks an incredible journey for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he recalls, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I believed I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
